What is the Kabbalah Friendship Bracelet

This article is about the combining of two popular trends of homemade thread jewelry. The Kabbalah red string and friendship bracelets. Together, they are the Kabbalah Friendship Bracelet.

The Kabbalah Friendship bracelet combines two very traditional and popular ideas:
The friendship bracelet handcrafted and weaved in traditional ways and which one ties onto the wrist of a friend as a show of love, and the red string which offers protection and is used to ward off misfortune.

Usually, the red string itself is made from thin red wool thread. It is worn, or tied, as a type of bracelet or “band” on the left wrist of the wearer (the receiving side). This tradition, is similar to and can be combined with the tradition of friendship bracelets.

Friendship bracelets are bracelets that are given from one friend to another as a symbol of their friendship. They are not known, however, to ward off the evil eye, like the red string bracelets in Kabbalah do. However the effective measure in the latter type of bracelet is simply the color red; therefore if you have enough red in the friendship bracelet it should be effective to this end.

Friendship bracelets are always handmade and they are usually made out of embroidery thread or embroidery floss. There are various patterns and styles to them, however, most are based on the same simple half-hitch knot. The making of friendship bracelets is actually a variation on the making of macrame.

The hand weaving and knot craft used to create traditional patterns derives from Native American handcrafts, especially those patters found in the Central American tradition.
According to the indigenous Native American tradition, the recipient of a friendship bracelet must wear it until the cords wear out or falls off naturally.

With Kabbalah Red String Bracelets, the thread brings you protection from the Evil Eye, until it wears out and or falls off by natural causes.

The idea with the former is that the friend paid for it with the hard work and love which went into making it; and the recipient repays the friend by honoring the work.

That being said, if you want to assure yourself protection from the Evil Eye, it would not be advisable to remove it before it wears out and falls off on its own.
Another variation of this tradition is that the recipient of a bracelet is entitled to a wish. After the bracelet wears out and falls off naturally, the wish will come true.
